"The school is a positive and welcoming place....Pupils feel safe in school....." (Ofsted 2017)

Sports Premium 2016/17

From September 2013 the government allocated funding directly to primary schools to support the provision of quality P.E./sport. Each school will receive £8,000 plus an extra £5 per pupil each year for the next two years. It is important that we use this money wisely to build on the legacy of the amazing 2012 Olympic Games and support the health and well-being of children into the future. Using some of this funding, we are fortunate to be part of the Willow Tree School Sports Partnership.

We aim to give every child the opportunity to enjoy developing their physical and sporting ability, to encourage them to live an active lifestyle throughout their life. With this in mind, we aim to use the funding to its maximum impact for our children. The following points are how we are encouraging this using the funding:

  • We feel that by improving the confidence of our staff in the delivery of high quality P.E lessons, is the most effective and efficient way for the funding to have a long lasting and positive effect on future learning and physical development of children within our school

  • Buy into existing local sports networks including the Willow Tree Sports Partnership or community sports coaching initiatives

  • Increase the access to a range of intra- school and inter-school sports (as part of the Willow Tree School Sports Partnership) so that children who are interested can engage

  • Develop the children’s leadership skills through the introduction of a School Games Organising Committee

  • To introduce a wider range of playground games at lunchtimes, training is provided to SMSAs for lunchtime supervision

  • Purchase specialist equipment and teaching resources to develop a both traditional and non-traditional activities. We have implemented the Real PE scheme of work to develop our children’s fundamental skills of agility, balance and coordination

  • Children are trained to lead playground games to help keep children active and develop social skills

  • A culminating school sport day at the end of each academic year
